New Starr Pass Trail Development Schedule

SDMB Starr Pass Trail Build

Help SDMB build new trail at Starr Pass!  After more than two years of planning, we are ready to break ground on more than 5 miles of sweet singletrack. No trail building experience is needed (although seasoned builders are welcome as well), and SDMB provides all the tools, along with lunch and post-work refreshments.  Everyone who comes our gets a FREE TLC t-shirt, and local businesses are stepping up to give away more swag like a Surly Instigator frame and REI goods.

In order to ensure quality trail work and volunteer safety, most work events are capped at 15 volunteers. Please register via the provided link if you want to come out!  If a work day is full, please check out a different day. Weather permitting, we may schedule additional work days in May.  Stay tuned for details.

All work days go from 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM, and we will meet at the Sarasota Trailhead off of Kinney Rd.

November Trail Love Crew (TLC) – Tucson Mountain Park

  • When: Sunday, November 22 @ 8:30am
  • Where: Tucson Mountain Park

For November we will be working in Tucson Mountain Park, on the connector between Explorer Trail and Robles Pass. It’s badly eroded and in need of some Trail Love! We will be working with Pima County NRPR to install drains and do rock work to keep the trail rideable and sustainable.

Due to limited parking at the work site, we will meet at the NE corner of Ajo and Mission, in the Food City parking lot in front of Rodolfo’s Mexican Restaurant at 8:30 AM. We will carpool to the 6′ culvert on Ajo and work until lunchtime.

Afterwards, plan on a king burrito or tacos; Rodolfo’s has some of the best Mexican food on the West side.

Please bring water, snacks, work gloves, and anything else you need to be comfortable and safe for a morning of trail work. SDMB will provide all the tools.

RSVP on the Facebook event.

Social Ride – Starr Pass

Join us on Saturday, June 13th (7:00am) at the main Genser Trailhead for a social ride at Starr Pass

We have been working hard with Pima County to lay out more than five miles of new singletrack that we hope to start building in the fall. On the ride we will show folks some of the proposed corridor and answer questions about proposed trail closures in the future.

We will ride the “regular loop” including the Yetman reroute, with more miles if folks are interested. Mellow pace, no one gets dropped.

Post-ride frosty beverages courtesy of SDMB.

Email trailsteward@sdmb.org or go to the Facebook event page with questions or to let us know you’re coming out.

SDMB Wins $10,000 Grant

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that SDMB has been awarded a $10,000 grant from REI to support the construction of 5.5 miles of singletrack in Tucson Mountain Park.

“We are excited to provide your organization with funding, but more importantly we are committed to strengthening our partnership. Working together, we hope to build greater awareness of your efforts to care for and increase access to the outdoor recreation places where our members and customers play, as well as REI’s investment in your organization.”

– REI Representative

Thank you REI! We feel the same way!  Please keep an eye out for future trail building days so you can help us put these fantastic grant funds to good use!

Builder Movie Screening

Come on out to Borderlands Brewing Company and watch PinkBike’s production of Builder, a great new film about the art and science of trail building. It tells the story of trail building through some of our sport’s best riders and most respected builders.

When: Wednesday, July 29th – 7:00 p.m.
Where: Borderlands Brewing Co. – 119 E Toole Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701

Check out the trailer, and see you then!
