SDMB has been awarded a $7500 grant from The Mountain Bike Association of Arizona (MBAA) to assist with construction of the McKenzie Ranch XC Race Venue! We hope to start construction this Spring, and could be finished as early as the end of 2017!
Thanks to MBAA, and to everyone who participates in their race series. Your registration fees make projects like this, and others all over Arizona, possible.
Here is SDMB making the Urban Assault Ride happen. We want to extend a HUGE thanks to the more than 60 volunteers who came out on November 15th. It was a great event, and helped us raise more than $4,000 for trails in Tucson!
SDMB wants your photos! Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists is running our first ever photo contest to celebrate our new tool trailer, purchased with a grant from REI. The winning photo will be featured on the graphic wrap on our tool trailer, and will be seen at trailheads and events all over Tucson and Pima County. The Sonoran Desert is an amazing and unique place to live and ride; help us showcase it by submitting your photos of mountain biking in the desert!
In addition to getting their photo featured on our trailer and website, the winner will receive a $100 gift card to Tucson Endurance Performance Center and an SDMB swag bag with a trucker cap, hoodie, flask and t-shirt. Four (4) runners-up will get an SDMB flask and their photos featured on our website. The contest runs September 26-October 26. The winner will be announced at SDMB’s Pint Night on November 4 at Borderlands Brewery.
The Urban Assault Ride is coming up on Sunday, November 15! SDMB is the non-profit beneficiary for the event, and we need to rally 60 volunteers to make the event happen.
This is an opportunity to raise more than $4,000, which will go directly to new trail development at Starr Pass this fall and winter. If you are not riding in the event (it’s a blast!) please come volunteer for the event. Volunteers are needed for:
- Setup shift (6:30 AM – 11:30 AM)
- Running the obstacles (8:30 AM – 1:30 PM)
- Take down shift (11:30 AM – 3:30 PM).
Volunteers will receive a post-shift beer, a t-shirt, a lunch ticket, and a crap-load of fun. You will also get the satisfaction of knowing that you helped get new singletrack built in Tucson, along with our eternal gratitude.
To register, go to: http://adventurefit.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=10858
See everyone there!
Come out to Ride for a Teacher with Carlos Resto! Just show up with at least $5.00 in school suppies, enjoy a great ride, and enjoy post-ride beverages courtesy of SDMB. Meet at the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead at 6:30 AM. The route will take us South across rolling XC trail to Lakes Road and back, for about 22 miles round trip. You can of course turn around sooner at any time.
When: Saturday, September 12, 6:30am
Where: Meet at the Gabe Zimmerman Trailhead
Trail: AZ Trail Lakes Road trail page
Distance: Roughly 22 miles out/back
To sign up for the event and get more info, see the Facebook event.
We will also have one each of the new SDMB sweatshirts, trucker caps, flasks, and t-shirts to give away, to be chosen at random. Make sure to drop your name in the jar for the drawing!
School supplies will be donated to Prince Elementary School. For anyone who follows the news, you know that our schools are drastically underfunded. They need our help, and a great way to support Arizona schools is through donations of school supplies. Items that are needed are:
- Binder clips
- Cleaning Wipes
- Clorox wipes
- Composition books
- Decorative Borders
- Dry erase markers
- Flash drives
- Hand sanitizer
- Paper towels
- Printer Paper
- Wide ruled paper
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that SDMB has been awarded a $10,000 grant from REI to support the construction of 5.5 miles of singletrack in Tucson Mountain Park.
“We are excited to provide your organization with funding, but more importantly we are committed to strengthening our partnership. Working together, we hope to build greater awareness of your efforts to care for and increase access to the outdoor recreation places where our members and customers play, as well as REI’s investment in your organization.”
– REI Representative
Thank you REI! We feel the same way! Please keep an eye out for future trail building days so you can help us put these fantastic grant funds to good use!
