SDMB wants your photos! Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists is running our first ever photo contest to celebrate our new tool trailer, purchased with a grant from REI. The winning photo will be featured on the graphic wrap on our tool trailer, and will be seen at trailheads and events all over Tucson and Pima County. The Sonoran Desert is an amazing and unique place to live and ride; help us showcase it by submitting your photos of mountain biking in the desert!
In addition to getting their photo featured on our trailer and website, the winner will receive a $100 gift card to Tucson Endurance Performance Center and an SDMB swag bag with a trucker cap, hoodie, flask and t-shirt. Four (4) runners-up will get an SDMB flask and their photos featured on our website. The contest runs September 26-October 26. The winner will be announced at SDMB’s Pint Night on November 4 at Borderlands Brewery.

The Urban Assault Ride is coming up on Sunday, November 15! SDMB is the non-profit beneficiary for the event, and we need to rally 60 volunteers to make the event happen.
This is an opportunity to raise more than $4,000, which will go directly to new trail development at Starr Pass this fall and winter. If you are not riding in the event (it’s a blast!) please come volunteer for the event. Volunteers are needed for:
- Setup shift (6:30 AM – 11:30 AM)
- Running the obstacles (8:30 AM – 1:30 PM)
- Take down shift (11:30 AM – 3:30 PM).
Volunteers will receive a post-shift beer, a t-shirt, a lunch ticket, and a crap-load of fun. You will also get the satisfaction of knowing that you helped get new singletrack built in Tucson, along with our eternal gratitude.
To register, go to: http://adventurefit.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=10858
See everyone there!

- Decorative Borders
- Dry erase markers
- Flash drives

Join us on Saturday, June 13th (7:00am) at the main Genser Trailhead for a social ride at Starr Pass.
We have been working hard with Pima County to lay out more than five miles of new singletrack that we hope to start building in the fall. On the ride we will show folks some of the proposed corridor and answer questions about proposed trail closures in the future.
We will ride the “regular loop” including the Yetman reroute, with more miles if folks are interested. Mellow pace, no one gets dropped.
Post-ride frosty beverages courtesy of SDMB.
Email email@example.com or go to the Facebook event page with questions or to let us know you’re coming out.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that SDMB has been awarded a $10,000 grant from REI to support the construction of 5.5 miles of singletrack in Tucson Mountain Park.
“We are excited to provide your organization with funding, but more importantly we are committed to strengthening our partnership. Working together, we hope to build greater awareness of your efforts to care for and increase access to the outdoor recreation places where our members and customers play, as well as REI’s investment in your organization.”
– REI Representative
Thank you REI! We feel the same way! Please keep an eye out for future trail building days so you can help us put these fantastic grant funds to good use!
Come on out to Borderlands Brewing Company and watch PinkBike’s production of Builder, a great new film about the art and science of trail building. It tells the story of trail building through some of our sport’s best riders and most respected builders.
This is a no-admission event and open to the entire community. Best yet, Borderlands will donate a portion of beer sales to SDMB’s trail building efforts.
When: Wednesday, July 29th – 7:00 p.m.

Check out the trailer, and see you then!
The public is invited to a informational meeting regarding the sale of land owned by the City of Tucson, which includes our beloved Fantasy Island. Local cycling clubs have been working with the City to preserve as much of Fantasy Island as possible.

The details are finalized and registration is live for the SDMB/SOLO Wilderness First Aid course, Saturday and Sunday May 30 and 31!
As mountain bikers, trail builders, hikers, and all-around outdoor enthusiasts we spend lots of time in the backcountry and in risky situations. Ordinary first-aid training doesn’t cover the types of medical emergencies that can occur in the backcountry, and adequate training and preparation can make the difference between a near-miss and a helivac, or worse…
The Wilderness First Aid course will be taught by SOLO, the oldest school of wilderness medicine in the U.S. Those who complete it will receive a 2-year WFA certification. Find more information about SOLO and the course curriculum.
Wilderness medicine courses are highly experiential, and combine classroom learning with hands-on practice and simulations. This course will be taught by James Corbin of the Central Arizona Mountain Rescue Association (CAMBA). In addition to providing highly useful skills and information, they are just plain fun!
Registration is only $155, and the first 10 SDMB members who register will get a $25 gift card to Tucson Endurance Performance Center. As an added bonus, SDMB will provide lunch for both days.
There are 2 steps to registration:
- Register Through Paypal.
- Email firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm your payment and attendance. Be sure to say if you’re an SDMB member so we can save your Tucson Endurance Performance Center gift card!
