The Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists have been a sponsor and beneficiary of the New Belgium Urban Assault Ride since 2009. It may seem like one huge party on-wheels (and it is) but it’s also much more than that. We fully support New Belgium in it’s dedication to promote healthy exercise, lessen our dependence on automobiles and fossil fuel, decrease traffic congestion, and show everyone just how easy it is to get around on a bicycle. If you want to read a bit more about New Belgium’s philosophy, just check out their Urban Assault website.

So what is it really about? The goal is for you and your partner to ride around Tucson to different checkpoints (including some fun mystery locations), complete tasks, and then head back… all on your bike. Once you’re done, enjoy some great beverages, food, and music! This event has exploded in popularity and with good reason… it’s a heck of a good time.

SDMB benefits financially from the Urban Assault by rounding up lots of volunteers to help at the checkpoints and the start/finish area. We ALWAYS need more help, so please consider volunteering for next year’s event! You get cool t-shirts, water bottles, free food and beer, and most importantly, the satisfaction of knowing you help Tucson with it’s cycling advocacy.
