TORTOLITA PRESERVE - DOVE MOUNTAIN

Level: Intermediate (2-B)

Description: Tortolita Preserve is a 9.9 mile single track loop. Sand, some hardpack, and rock with a couple of semi-technical sections. Great fun ride on a singlespeed. The trail winds through a beautiful ironwood forest, best appreciated during the May bloom. The trail is marked with metal signs indicating the types of trees and cactus, distance from the trailhead, and elevation.

Directions: Take Tangerine Rd. to Dove Mtn. Blvd. Turn north on Dove Mtn. Blvd. At Moore Rd., turn left (west). At the end of the pavement, pass through the gate. The trailhead is approximately 100 yards past gate on the right. Google Map.

Notes: In 2009, “The County Line Riders of Catalina” constructed a parking area near the Moore Road trailhead to accommodate horse trailers and larger vehicles. The Tortolita Rd. trailhead north of the NW fire station is now blocked off due to development and is no longer accessible from this direction. However, Heritage Highlands residents can access this trailhead from their security gate. Long story….to be continued.
