The Watermans

The Watermans are part of The Ironwood National Monument. This is definitely a cool weather ride. It is around 12 miles if you decide on doing the climb up Waterman Mountain and 10 miles or so if you bypass that brutal effort. Mostly jeep road, some single track (hard to follow) and lots of rocks. You can check the profile below to see just how hard the climb up to the summit is. The trip down is no piece of cake either. The views from this area are terrific (check the photos). Some of the vegetation in this area is on the endagered species list (Turks Head Cactus). The rocks on some of the ridges are razor sharp so watch yourself.

DIRECTIONS: From Tucson take I-10 West toward Phoenix. Exit on the Avra Valley Road which is in Marana and go left (West) for 17.8 miles on Avra Valley Road. You will get to the one and only mail box on the left side of the road with a sign for The Agua Dulce Ranch. This dirt road heads South toward Waterman Mountain. Parts of this road can be ugly but our Honda made it. Stay on this road for 2.9 miles to a parking area on the right (not well defined) and unload. Check the map for the rest of the ride.
