Starr Pass & Tucson Mountain Park Starr Pass is one of the most popular rides in the area. It is very close in, lots of good single track, many different trails to explore, and has every level of riding you could want. The trail below is one of many options available. It is one of the favorite rides and connects with just about everything in this area. If you leave from the parking area, take the whole loop and return to parking area the ride is about 9 miles. Most of the ride is intermediate but can be handled by most novice riders. There are plenty of ADVANCED sections available for those of you that want them. Remember that this is only one trail. To avoid cluttering up the map it is the only one shown. You really can't get lost and will probably have a great time exploring. Take plenty of water because none is available. DIRECTIONS: Take 22nd Street (also called Starr Pass Blvd.) west across I-10 and the Santa Cruz River until you get to Starr Pass Country Club (golf course). About 100 yards north of the Club House will be a dirt road on your left. This leads to the paved parking area. From the parking area, there are two trailheads... the newest (and most fun) starting at the Southeast side. Yetman Trail, which is the uppermost section (north) of the loop shown, is a very rocky wash in this area. It is the part following Widow Maker, a short tough climb (not really that hard - although I can't ride it). Tucson Mountain Park West. Great riding area. Many miles of single track. One (and really only one of many) rides is shown on the map. It is really impossible to get lost in Tucson Mountain Park as all of the trails lead back to a main road. Most rides have 200 - 500 feet of vertical in them so you can ride in either direction. A very good place to begin is Parking Area K11 which is on Kinney Road near the entrance to the park. You can also get to K11 by going over scenic Gates Pass, turn left toward Old Tucson and proceed about 1 mile to K11 on your right. Most of Tucson Mountain Park is well signed. Tony by one of the signs. Everyone can take a spill on these trails! Jerry and Louie prove that. This is pretty typical of the trails in the park Photo opps are plentiful such as this great shot under a Saquaro arm Don't let the beginning of the Starr Pass Trail fool you. It is not all this hard. Map of Starr Pass & Tucson Mtn Park (does not include the NEW Awesome section) - Back to Trails - |
