Molino Basin to Bellota Ranch Molino Basin to Bellota Ranch and "The Lake" is a terrific ride. Mostly single track, very pretty, and as demanding as any sane person would want. Please notice the climb up to the saddle, the drop into West Spring and the ride back out and back to the parking. Don't kid yourself, it is as hard as it looks. It is roughly two miles up/down of HARD RIDING/WALKING. It is worth the effort, just be prepared for it. Each of us used over 100 oz. of water and it was a cool, overcast day. DIRECTIONS: Very easy to find. Take Mt. Lemmon Highway to Molino Basin parking. Cross the road to the trail and have at it. It is about a 13 mile round trip and will take several hours. The beginning is all single track up to the junction of the Arizona Trail and the Bellota Trail. Stay left and head toward Bellota Ranch (just purchased by Tanque Verde Guest Ranch). Once you get to the ranch head up the road until you get to a gate (not cattle guard). About 300 yards past that gate is the intersection (upper) of Bellota Ranch Road and the Arizona Trail (to the right). "The Lake," such as it is, can be found in this immediate area. There is a photo of The Lake at the bottom of this page. The Lake and dam at Bellota Ranch View from the saddle on Molino Ridge If all goes well this is the sign you should see midway through the ride. - Back to Trails - |
