Santa Rita Keyhole

This is a wonderful, 24-mile ride in the Santa Rita Mountains, South of Tucson. A picturesque combination of SingleTrack and Forest Service jeep road with plenty of climbing, it offers sweeping views of the grasslands and mountains to the east, including the Whetstones, Mustangs and Huachucas. It is not an easy ride (3+ hours for the average rider) but one that is well worth the effort. Steep climbs and technical descents put this ride in the too-much-pain category for anybody below the advanced intermediate skill level.

You can get directions to the trailhead and a detailed ride description by going to IMPA Epic 2000 on the links on the SDMB home page; then scroll down to "More Details" and click on the "click here" to view maps hypertext. NOTE. The ride description changed after a landowner closed a road, and the description of that segment of the ride is less detailed, and doesn't include mileage information.

WHEN TO GO: Year around.
