Catalina State Park, 50 year trail, Golder Ranch area, The "Chutes." This is certainly one of the nicest, in close areas to ride. Catalina State Park is located North on Oracle Road about 6 miles from the intersection of Ina and Oracle. Golder Ranch Road, which leads to much of the 50 year trail and the Chutes, is around 10.5 miles North on Oracle from the intersection of Ina and Oracle. Both are on the right (East) side of Oracle Rd. Plenty of single track, some technical areas along with a whole bunch of beginner to intermediate rides. This area has something for everyone. You can arrange your ride to be virtually any distance or time you would like. A 2 mile, introductory fun ride, up to 30 miles of killer climbs and technical challenges. All of this and it is BEAUTIFUL. I have taken many rookies out to this area just to turn them on to mountain biking. There is a loop of single track that will definitely convince people that riding is FUN! Go to the parking area at the end of Golder Ranch Road and pick up the single track down the road on your right. There are two tracks, one about 50 yards down on the right and another about 300 yards along, also on the right. These will eventually join up at a dirt road. You can't miss with these trails. You can do about a 3 mile loop and will really have a ball. Watch out for the CACTUS however! The first map below has you parking at Honeywell and riding through Catalina State Park, onto the 50 year trail to the Golder Ranch area. Once there you head North to the "Chutes" and then back to your vehicle. It is almost all single track, mostly intermediate riding, about 20 miles counting the pavement into the Park with a 1,600 ft. change in elevation, and should be 2-3 hours of riding. You can get water at the Equestrian Center but nowhere else. The reason for parking and starting the ride at Honeywell is the fee charged for using Catalina State Park. You can certainly drive into the Park and leave your vehicle at the Equestrian Center. The second map shows much of the Golder Ranch Trails area. The 50 year trail, the Chutes, Deer Camp Loop, and several other single tracks in the area. Deer Camp Loop is very difficult at the start. The first few sections, leading to the top of the hill, will challenge all riders. These sections are short however so most people can make it to the top of that ridge and enjoy the wonderful single track downhill. NEW!
